Pentacel Manufacturing Delay Extended

Pentacel® Manufacturing Delay Status Update

Pentacel® vaccine supply will continue to be limited. Sanofi Pasteur, the manufacturer of Pentacel®, said in December 2015 that the manufacturing issues would last through the first half of 2016. The company recently announced that, “while progress has been made regarding this vaccine delay, there is a need to extend allocations into the second half of 2016.” At this point Sanofi Pasteur does not have a firm or estimated date for the resolution of this vaccine supply limitation.

Do Not Delay Childhood Immunizations

Providers already using Pentacel® can still order Pentacel® vaccine, but you may not have enough Pentacel® to complete the 4-dose vaccine series. These Philadelphia VFC providers should continue to vaccinate with Pentacel®, but finish the series with single-antigen vaccines for DTaP (DAPTACEL®), Polio (IPOL®), and Hib (ActHIB®), when necessary.

Digital Data Loggers: Reminders

  1. Download report from Digital Data Logger and send to TempCheck@phila.gov
    – As soon as you see an alarm
    – When you submit an order
    – Every 30 days
  2. DDLs can only store 30 days worth of temperatures. If you don’t download, the logger will stop recording and your site will no longer be in compliance with VFC policy for storage and handling.
  3. Continue to manually log temperature twice a day on the paper temperature logs found on the
http://kids.phila.gov/ website. Remember to also submit these logs via fax when ordering vaccines.
  4. If you have any questions about training, alarms, the digital data logger please contact us at TempCheck@phila.gov
